Newspaper Design Notes

Broad Sheet- long and narrow

Tabloid-  short and square-ish

Folio- info about the newspaper (city, state, slogan, page number)

Teasers- preview to whats inside

Infographic- a way to communicate information graphically/ visually

Front Pages of the World

1. My Favorite newspaper front page was the Los Angeles Times, its my favorite because what happen here in Texas is the first thing you see and what happen in Boston follows down the page.

2. My favorite headline is "FBI seeks public's help in identifying suspects" referring to the images released of the two people that may had cause the bombing in Boston. I'm interested because the people responsible need to be punished.

3. There's two stories on the newspaper.

4. I notice that somewhere on the front page are the surveillance images of the two men that could have been responsible for the bombing in Boston. Also The the subtitles font are the same size.

5.  I see that not all newspapers have a little picture row of pictures under the title on the front page.

lens and photography vocab

I would use a telephoto lens to shoot at a football game

I would use a prime lens to shoot at a volleyball game or basketball game.

I would use a wide-angle lens to shoot large things that take up a lot of space.

Magazine tips

1. If the cover pops out from its background, don’t weaken it by fussing with it. You’ve probably done something courageous (like that all-green Swedish Golf Digest) and deserve congratulations. Leave well enough alone.

2. If it is invisible like wallpaper, decide what element is worthy of becoming dominant by enlarging, by isolating, by more controlled color, by more clever wording. … Do it deliberately, strongly, with conviction. The great thing about seeing the sketch cover in its realistic setting is that it warns you away from itsy-bitsy decisions that don’t matter. To succeed out there, you have to realize that you are making a poster, albeit in miniature. A billboard.

3. don't judge your cover on the computer because The screen is the wrong size, no matter how big it is. You can’t see it intimately as if it were in your hands.

4. Judge your cover page by thinking If selling on newsstands is not your problem, but competition among executives is, gather copies of what your targets might be reading, including your competition, of course. Mock up an executive’s in-box or tabletop arrangement in some way, and place yours among them. That is the realistic way to judge your cover. Keep that still-life stack for next month’s headaches.

5. Keep in mind different things when picking your cover such as Intellectually stimulating, interesting (that’s to promise benefits)

Choice Sheet

I am planning on attending a four year college and becoming a teacher. I am not sure what age or subject yet but i am leaning towards elementary education. I am currently in an Internship where I go to an elementary school and work with a specific class and work with that group of students and teacher. I am planning on staying with that next year. It is double blocked so it takes up half of my elective schedule. I am in the Social Services Academy.
